obsessioners + malaysian music enthusiasts!as i was editing, tweaking and making the last few changes to the site; i just felt like switching on the tv. to my surprise, Anugerah Juara Lagu was on, 15-20 mins into the live show. i almost forgot about it. luckily i didn't miss it because last nite's show made another mark in AJL history. for the second consecutive year, Anugerah Juara Lagu has acknowledged an indie band. Meet Uncle Hussein's (one of my favourite Malay indie bands) song Lagu Untukmu was named Best Song at the 23rd edition of TV3's annual song competition last night. imagine that?! another indie band marks its name in Malaysian music history. last year, Estranged took home the award with the upbeat number Untuk Kamu.
personally, i think this is the mark of evolution in the Malaysian music industry. the industry has finally unleashed from the reign of stereotypical Malay love ballads and cheesy pop songs to a more widely acceptable scope of musical tastes. who knows sometime in the near future EDM will be incorporated into one of these awards shows or even better; we get our very own EDM related awards show.
