HAPPY MONDAY OBSESSIONERS!

hope u guys had a wonderful weekend. well i certainly had a blast at the Heineken Green Room 4 with AGRIKULTURE, GXXX, LAP SAP and of course the legendary, 2MANYDJs aka Soulwax. let me run through the nite a bit with you guys.

AGRIKULTURE started the nite off with an eccentric mixture of electro, clash and teeth grinding beats to get us jumpin' and pumpin'. they even pulled a remix of the track WARP with our girl ARABYRD rhymin' to it. just friggin' awesome.

next up was mr GXXX aka Goldfish did an spell binding live performance featuring a drummer (anyone know who he was?!). this was certainly a memorable highlight of the show.

then came the legends. 2ManyDJs intro was amazing, as you can see from the video. they presented us with crazy mad cut ups and brain stammering loops. dropped tracks from MGMT, Guns N Roses, Nirvana, Justice, Crookers, Proxy, Major Lazer, Daft Punk, Felix The House Cat, Deadmau5 and many many more.

our boys, LAP SAP, concluded the nite with heart pumpin' tracks that made you wish that they wouldn't stop playing. haha.

this post has been long overdue. haha. i really owe mr TOM PIPER big time for this. ok ok. on with the freshness.

this chap has been around the Sydney club scene for quite awhile now. well he's been hittin' raves since he was 16; so u get the idea. what does he spin u ask? he doesn't believes in genres, so to put in simple terms, he spins pure FRESHNESS. ain't no mentos fresher than him babe. haha. as a producer, TOM PIPER is so diverse that he has pulled out massive collaborations with a lot of big names in the industry like Tommy Trash, Micky Slim, Snob Scrilla, Marvin Priest, Nom De Strip, Stupid Fresh, Nick Correlli (MYNC Project), Destroy Disco, Jono Fernandez, Daniel Farley. i had the chance to meet up with him last month back, when he playing at some random gig in KL. an awesomely friendly guy in person, but when he gets behind the decks, he will surely make you git yo ass of that chair and BOUNCE!

yes. don't say it. i know it has been awhile. it's been a rather crazy mad second half of the year for all of us at OS. the crew has been going through thick and thin during the past year. all the crazy stuff that's been happening around us. OBSESSIONSYNDROME had quite roller coaster year with our editors and writers trying to get back our momentum after suffering from a rather mild recession. hahaha. but we got through.

many things we have gone through and despite the so so year we had at OS, it seems that TWO.OH.OH.NINE was quite an amplified year for the Malaysian EDM scene. DJs/Producers coming down to expose us to nu styles and music, and not to forget the amount of talents blooming from our own back yard.

as we mentioned many times before we have plans to make OBSESSIONSYNDROME a force to be reckoned with in the Malaysian scene. with that said, we hope our plans for OS next year will materialize and OS will become a major voice in this industry, locally, regionally and hopefully internationally. we are looking forward to OS in 2010 with great anticipation and excitement. and YOU SHOULD TOO. =P

WHAT IS UP OBSESSIONERS & ELECTRO FREEKS!

as you all might notice, the electro pop syndrome has gotten the best of our fellow americans. a lot of supa kool electro pop bands are emerging from the great land known as the USA and this is one band not to be neglected.

HYPER CRUSH is a DOO-HOP band hailing from Los Angeles, California. Consisting of three members, Donny “Ponyboy” Fontaine (who once won a trip to Reno Nevada in a James Dean look alike contest), mr tune maestro slash producer slash dj extraordinaire; Preston “Cutty” Moronie, and not to forget the ever so voluptuous ms Holly “Baby” Valentine; the band started off their musical journey in 2006, released their debut album The Arcade in 2008 going on to sign under Universal Motown in late 2009.

In a nut shell, these guys are doo-hop sound freeks making references to Nintendo, technicolor, hyper color, and Genesis in their tracks. They even used sounds from the game Duck Hunt to begin the song "The Arcade" and music from The Legend of Zelda to end it.

So with all that being said, do give them a lot of love at these respective sites.

Recently i had the chance to attend an afternoon party at The Dex in Brixton, UK where one of my fave DJ at the moment reside. I didn't manage catch him and a slew of other cool artists at Bestival earlier so i thought i'd do myself justice and haul my a** to this one.

Despite the good weather, turnout wasn't that great and most of them were either busy getting drunk, having BBQ, chilling out or frolicking in the hot tub on the upper deck (i'm not kidding...they HAVE a hot tub up there!) trying to enjoy what's left of summer. Like a true soldier, i braved on and stayed by the DJ console from start till the end so i can confidently tell you people that the music from house, techno, elektro and fidget served by the headlining and support DJ's was more than enough to set the vibe, get the party going and make it up for the rest who came. I simply just can't stop boppin' and bouncin' to the beat.

Now, i wonder why nobody is interested bringing this guy (and perhaps the whole Wearhouse Music crew) down to KL...hmmmm....

yerps. it is true. for our 2nd installation of DIALOGUE, OS is very honoured and proud to present to you; DANGERDISKO! The duo's unique and eclectic sounds, heavily influenced by Daft Punk, JUSTICE and Anoraak, just to name a few, has played a very important role in evolving the nightlife and EDM scene in KL. RoboTron 5000's eclectic taste in new wave and indie dance combined with Shaheed Naz's dirty disco and nosebleed electro has made DANGERDISKO a name you will almost certainly remember.

I caught up with the guys from DANGERDISKO and managed to squeeze them for a DIALOGUE session and also a couple of exclusive mixsets! yerps. that's right. DANGERDISKO's EXCLUSIVE OBSESSIONSYNDROME MIXSETS! so, go ahead and download 'em mixsets [links at the end of the interview] and while you wait, let us follow what RoboTron 5000 [R] & Shaheed Naz [S] has to say about DANGERDISKO, life, music and all the things that revolves around it.

OS: Tell our readers a little about DANGERDISKO and how you guys came about?

R: Well, Shaheed and I were neighbourhood friends and we were sort of rivals to start off with. Both were struggling bedroom DJ geeks but later on, after we finally hung out, we found out that we both shared the same interests and tastes in music and everything sort of clicked into place from there on. We both were in bands (and still are) and were committed to the underground rock music scene but we wanted to do something totally of out the norm. We had separate DJing careers circa 2001 – 2005. But in 2005, we formed ‘They Came From Mars’, and started spinning and producing breakbeats, 2 step garage and drum n bass. Everything came by so fast. We were the finalists of the Heineken Thirst 2006 competition; we were signed on instantly with an independent label and released a few singles, locally and internationally. But after some legal struggle with the label, we decided to bury the group and the name. We finally formed a new duo and armed ourselves with a fresh new dynamic, hence DANGERDISKO was born.

S: We were sitting in OU Burger King and the name suddenly popped out!

OS: Describe your sound in three words. 

R: Robo Disco Sex!

S: Dirty, Sexy, Pumped

OS: What genres of music and artists did you listen to growing up? And what kind of music do you listen during your free time?

R: I listened to a lot of stuff growing up, good music like The Beatles, Billy Joel, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. My dad was the 70’s psychedelic rock and funk junkie. But my mom was the 80’s freak. She taught me a lot of new wave stuff like The Cure, A-HA and Depeche Mode and opened my doors to the first prototype sounds of EDM. That should explain my never ending obsession with new wave. What do I listen to in my free time? I just listen to anything that’s good.

S: Well I am versatile when it comes to music. I started listening to electronic music since I was in high school and the genre that triggered my music passion was and still is, is Drum & Bass. Since then I’ve been exploring EDM deeper in search of my true sound and the search has led me directly into dirty basslines. For me to push into Drum & Bass is really quite a challenge here in Malaysia so inevitably Fidget, Electro and Dubstep is the way to go. On the other hand, for those moments of inspiration, I meditate myself with some good, soothing music like Lounge, Chillout and Nu-Jazz.

OS: Who or what has been the biggest influences in your life as a DJ/producer? Any current favourites to recommend? All-time favourite track/s?

R: Daft Punk. We accept nothing less.

S: For Drum & Bass it’ll be Concord Dawn and for 4/4 beats it’ll be Trentemoller and Laidback Luke.

OS: What tracks are you listening to at the moment?

R: MSTRKRFT feat. John Legend – Heartbreaker

S: The whole Trentemoller singles collection.

OS: What have been up to lately and what can we expect from you over the next couple of months?

R: We just finished our first leg of the DANGERDISKO Indonesia Tour. It was fucking crazy. Indonesians REALLY know how to party. They are simply awesome. I had the best time of my life there. We’re hoping to go back there by the year end and hopefully continue the tour in Thailand, Singapore and the Phillipines. We’re also currently planning a monthly event here in KL. We’re collaborating with Nazkimo; one of KL’s finest electroklash DJs around and we’re hoping to kick start a new wave of independent electroklash shows. It’s going to be similar to an underground indie gig, but at a clubbing scale. Art, music, fashion and independent spirit, all under one roof. And best of all, it’s free. Can you imagine that? Also on the side, we’ve been producing some of our own material and we’re currently remixing some local artistes’ tracks. We’re also on the verge of releasing our debut EP soon, so stay tuned for that!

S: We’re also currently busy releasing our mixtapes online and you can download them all for free at our blog.

OS: How have you seen your popularity grow over the past year?

R: We’ve been getting much love from DANGERDISKOTEERS from all over the South East Asia region: Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Singapore and Bangkok, which was actually a feat we never though could be possible a year ago. Emails have been pouring in from as far as Europe and the States and we really love the whole blog circle thing that’s been going on for us. Bloggers make up 75% of our supporters and they are a very supportive bunch. A lot has happened in the past year, we’ve went on from unknowns to notorious unknowns, jumped from one residency to another, partied in countless of events, opened for a number of awesome international DJs, birthed the RUNWAY THUNDER and the ELECTRIC PLAYGROUND series and did our first debut international tour. Man, 2008 -2009 has been awesome.

OS: Over the next few years, how do you see technology revolutionizing Electronic Dance Music, and how if in any way has technology revolutionized your music?

R: Leaps in technology has made it easier for an average Joe DJ to sound like Tiesto, and it has helped us tremendously to sound more professional. But like any other vices, it does have its cons. The process of being a DJ is so simple these days, almost anyone could just download a copy of Virtual DJ and claim to be a DJ. In other words, the birth of the hordes of posers definitely pisses me off.

S: One thing I can say is that in the future EVERYBODY can produce music.

OS: At this point in your career, would you rather have 1,000 people buy your latest track, or 100,000 listen to it for free?

R: 100,000 people listening to it for free. If I wanted to make money in Malaysia, I’d be a politician.

S: Well we will allocate our ‘stock’ tracks and our free-for-all tracks. At least we’ll get something out of our hardship of working on the tracks for weeks straight without sleep

OS: Which party had the most impact for you as DJ?

R: That’s a tricky question. For me personally, it has to be the days when we were in Frangipani. Those were struggling days, but we had a world of fun. Oh, and the RUNWAY THUNDER nights. Models + Fashionistas + Electroklash formula is a no brainer. It never fails!

S: Jakarta!!

OS: What do you like the most being DANGERDISKO?

R: Nobody knows who we really are. They just love us for the music and recognise us for the brand. That is simply the best part of being in DANGERDISKO.

S: The discovery of each other’s passion; the dirty sound from myself and the 80’s stab attacks from Robotron 5000.

OS: What do you think of the Malaysian electronic music scene?

R: To be perfectly frank, the Malaysian electronic music scene is a slow blossoming flower, but we are catching up at our own pace. The mainstream nightlife scene in KL is easily backdated by 3-4 years but there is still hope. There are literally hundreds of great new DJs and acts out there, visibly unknown to the mainstream crowd but the scene is controlled by outdated scene extremist bastards who are bent on destroying any fresh new idea or sound. The solution? Wait for them to die, unfortunately.

S: Not many are musically educated here Malaysia. There are too many divisions of listeners and of course the majority (commercial music) always wins. In this industry, to be successful, you got to kiss a lot of asses.

OS: Where do you see DANGERDISKO in the next 5 years?

R: We hope our sound would still be fresh in 5 years time. We do not want to stand in the way of the future generation to blossom. If our sound is no longer relevant, we would throw in the towels, inevitably. Every DJ has an expiry date. It takes nobility to embrace that fact.

OS: In your own words define music.

R: Music is an art form sought to express the inner depths of human emotions. But that statement could only be applied to good music. I have no words for crappy music.

S: Music is the medium that connects life to your heart.

R: The fate of the local nightlife scene is in your hands. Support your local acts and venues that actually give opportunities to said acts and read more fantastic indie music blogs such as OBSESSIONSYNDROME. There’s more to the internet than just Facebook, David Guetta and porn, kids!

Anyway, are you bored of your in-ear wax melting earphones? Tired of bland looking headphones which somehow always come in gloomy black/grey colour scheme? Or simply think that your current ear cans doesn't carry enuff street cred to match your funky technicolor style? Well fret no more..... (this is sounding more like Smartshop ad but at the mo i'm mentally unable to cough up some other witty ideas so cut me some slack, aye? :p )

Stylish ear cans are now fast becoming a staple with every urban fashionistas apart from fresh pair of kicks. Have no idea about the sound quality tho as i've never tested any of them personally but there's already loads of review on the net to kill your time. Some see the loud colours and call 'em garish but i think most of us will agree that these babies look cool be it on the streets or on the decks.

Nuff' rambling, this time i have a mixtape from Joe Chant aka HiJack. This guy's been known for making and playing bouncy, funk-fueled grooves with some healthy dose of chunky beats and quirky hooks. He has enjoyed big support from influental artist and DJ's, from Moby to Crookers, and received frequent airplay from BBC Radio One DJ's Annie Mac, Dave Spoon and Kissy Sellout. His signature sound fuses jacking house and techno in which bounce time is always guaranteed. At the same time, the fine lad also runs Jack Union Records and releasing projects under his other alias, Vukasin.

This mixtape has been on repeat in my iPod for the past week and i've been HiJacked! Are you getting HiJacked too?

Now back to the subject...by this time i'm pretty sure everyone knows that "Kid Millionaire" (for those who didn't know, that's Steve Aoki's DJ moniker) and his entourage is coming down to KL for U.O.X Future Play event@Bukit Kiara on April 30th, 'O-Nine'. As a good raving citizen i thought i'd contribute some more to the hype and hopefully make up for my depression not being able to go and party myself sh*tless again this time :p

Not really good at speeches so i'm keepin' this short. Mad props to SPKR:FRKR for givin' me the chance to contribute here (haha...this is starting to sound like a speech at the Grammy's, no?). Hopefully i'll find the energy to serve you lads/lass out there with some wonky, quirky beats of fidget house and other new sounds that i come across and deserve some exposure in the Malaysian EDM scene.

For this one, i feel it's appropriate to start with a mix set by a massive name in fidget house, Lee Mortimer aka Sawtooth Sucka. He's the brains behind Wearhouse Music, home to the fidgety bunch like Foamo, Kelevra, Bass Weazel among others.

He's been steadily making waves with his productions and DJ sets by taking every opportunity to supply ears with exciting, sleaze-filled fidget house which pays homage to his underground, sweaty clubs and late night DJ-ing roots.

it's obsessionsyndrome's very first interview and we're calling it DIALOGUE! woo hoo! for our first installment of DIALOGUE, we have our very own JONVU! this guy has been etching his name into the Malaysian EDM scene for quite awhile now and as we can see, it's paying off. he's been getting gigs all around KL and now he is the other half of a DJing duo, ELECTIC BOTZ! this is how our first our very first DIALOGUE went:

Who are you and what is the reason you choose this artist name?
I'm a guy who cooks, creates, thinks, eats and delivers. In another words, a designer and an independent DJ. Reason. Hmm, I already have a lot of nick names since primary school, so for my profession I prefer peeps call me by my real name. It's just different spelling to prevent misunderstanding.

How old are you and how long have you been active in the scene?
I'll keep my age secret, for the time being. I've been active since I was born in this scene. Well, not very long, since 2007.

What made you become a DJ?
I like the loud bass from the big speakers vibrating my nerves, after sitting at the desk all day. Secondly, I always want peeps to look at me and acknowledge me, when I’m on stage, but I can't sing or dance. So I become DJ.

Who or what has been the biggest influences in your life as a DJ/producer? Any current favourites to recommend?
This I have to be serious. The crowds, fans and my friends are my biggest influences. They're not musicians or someone that has to do with my DJing career, but whenever they cheer, scream and dance their pants off, I will instantly be inspired and it’s like seeing the ‘light’. What have been up to lately and what can we expect from you over the next couple of months?
Expect some massive sh*t! I'm gonna produce a few tracks this year and it's gonna an awesome contribution to the scene. *crossed fingers*

How would you label music that you spin/produce, genre wise?
Something driving, pumping, head banging and a bit cheesy maybe? Totally not for sleeping purposes.

Which one do you enjoy the most, DJing or producing and what do you see as your main strengths as a DJ/producer?
I think I enjoy Djing coz' I don’t sweat enough. I sweat a lot when I’m bangin’ the decks. My main strength as a DJ is that I’m not afraid to do whatever it takes for the crowd to have a good time, even if they want my pants as well.

Which party had the most impact for you as DJ?
I would have to say that every party where everyone has a great time and is fully satisfied with the music has the most impact to me. It doesn't matter whose party it is, when I see people enjoying the music and the night is in carefree spirit, I see there’s a long bright journey ahead of me.

What do you like the most being a DJ?
Sweat! and also watching the crowd get into what I deliver on the decks. Not forgetting the sexy girls as well.

What’s your all-time favourite track?
Er. I don't have any yet.

What do you think of the Malaysian electronic music scene?
SLOW! MORE EDUCATION and KNOWLEDGE need to be implemented into the scene. Only small group of music people contributing to the scene, but most of them... Let's not talk about that.

What kind of music do you listen at home when you are alone?
Depends. From jazz to deep house to trance.

What is the most embarrassing track you have in your collection?
Very very very amateur remix of 20th Century FOX theme track. Plus, there's 1 or 2 tracks where background has this sex sounds. Haha!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Hmm. I’ll have to ask the fortune teller. Hehe.

Who was your hero as a child?
Optimus Prime from Transformers.

What do you do for fun when you are not at work?
Watch Stephan Chow's movies.

Are you single?
I'm attached but available at the same time.

What is the most embarrassing moment in your life?
I don't remember any. But there's one time when I kept my hair long and straightened it. One of my friends told me I look so &%^$*#@.

What is your favourite food?
FREE FOOD!

AOKI will be headlinig the event and his associates will include the awesome SHITDISCO, PASE ROCK and the very awesome STRETCH ARMSTRONG (not the punk band). They will be joined by local favourites LAPSAP and TWILIGHT ACTIONGIRL. too bad THE BLOODY BEETROOTS won't be joining them this time around. was really hoping for them to tag along too, but oh well. there's also gonna be a special appearance by world renowned party photographer, THE COBRASNAKE!

this is an event certainly NOT to be missed! the last installment of the UOX Play series. obsessionsyndrome will surely be there to witness the massive invasion. can't wait for AOKI and his DIM MAK associates to rock KL with bass pumping electro mania! WOOP WOOP!

yes, oh yes.that is correcto mundo! crookers 'teamed' up with the infamous ms britney spears to present to all youse the remixed version of her new single, If U Seek Amy. i took a listen to the track and surprisingly found it rather, how do i put it, ermmm, uplifting? well, the producers of britney's new album, Circus, did manage to put together a few nice tracks, just waiting to be remixed to awesome 'uplifting' ones. oh well, u love to hate her and u hate to love her. we all say we hate her but somehow her music always tends to stick to our heads. know what i mean? so with that said. this one 'ere is for the ladies. enjoy.

hey obsessioners + ravers + party people!

as most of you all already know. the SPEEDZONE TOUR '09 is happening at KL Tower this weekend. it's gonna be wild over there this time around. with the line up their presenting this year it would be a major waste if i didn't go early to enjoy the pumping sounds from the likes of Alexander Technique, Danielle Davoli, Tall Paul (one of my favourite DJs from the early days of raving to EDM), Nic Fanciulli, Ricky Stone, Oakenfold and of course, a malaysian favourite, Judge Jules.

with all the mentioned line ups an the two arena, it would surely be a confusing nite since most of the DJs will overlap their sets with each other. it be really hard to choose who to listen to. oh well. an hour with each DJs will do. i think. lol.

on a a personal note though. i'm really looking forward to Alexander Technique from DJs Are Not Rockstars, spinning some dirty electro and ghetto-tech mixes. but since his set starts at 7:30pm, i'm not sure if can make it that early, considering i have to do a few chores before heading off to the party. hope fully Ricky Stone could satisfy my musical needs by playing some of his signature tech-house tracks and hopefully a great mix of his new single, 'In Miami'. you heard yet? absolutely awesome!!!

ermmm. i wonder if anyone's gonna playing any fidget mixes this time round. hahaha. doubt it. but surely keep an ear out for it.

it's an awesome new sound. yes it is. the term started out as a joke by DJ cum producers Switch and Jesse Rose. Since then it has evolved into a new awesome fusion of electronic music elements namely electro, techno, breaks and UK garage; influencing musicians/producers/DJs such as Crookers, Herve, Defunct! and many more.

It’s been almost two weeks since we last populated this blog. Most of us have been rather busy with our day jobs. Owh yeah, before I forget I’d like to wish all obsessioners a prosperous Chinese New Year! Out goes the rat, in comes the Ox.

I’ve have dedicated yet another week of brainstorming of ideas and suggestion on how we gonna make obsessionsyndrome to become the leading EDM related info-site in Malaysia. So far we’ve come up with event coverage, write ups on local and international acts, video interviews and media coverage. We do appreciate more ideas and suggestions from all youse out there and we do need your support to make this happen. on the 21st January 2009, the Beatport 4.0 was launched. i saw the video presentation a few weeks ago. it excited the jeeblies out of me (what the hell is jeeblies? that's how excited i was). thus i anticipated with full enthusiasm until it finally launched. i mingled and fidgeted the awesome new web application with much gratittude and awe. as we malays like to call 'jakun'. lol.

EUPHORIA has come up with a CNY festive special; WE LOVE TECHNO! we'll i know i do. well, a lot of people actually mis-define the term. no guys, techno is not the jinjang disco style that is rather common in KL. below i've included an excerpt from wikipedia defining techno so people get a better idea of what techno is all about.

Techno is a form of electronic dance music (EDM) that emerged in Detroit, Michigan, USA during the mid to late 1980s. The first recorded use of the word techno, in reference to a genre of music, was in 1988. Many styles of techno now exist, but Detroit techno is seen as the foundation upon which a number of subgenres have been built.

The initial take on techno arose from the melding of Eurocentric synthesizer-based music with various African American styles such as Chicago house, funk, electro, and electric jazz. Added to this was the influence of futuristic and fictional themes that were relevant to life in American late capitalist society—particularly the book The Third Wave by Alvin Toffler.Pioneering producer Juan Atkins cites Toffler's phrase "techno rebels" as inspiring him to use the word techno to describe the musical style he helped to create. Meet Uncle Hussein named Juara Lagu!

as i was editing, tweaking and making the last few changes to the site; i just felt like switching on the tv. to my surprise, Anugerah Juara Lagu was on, 15-20 mins into the live show. i almost forgot about it. luckily i didn't miss it because last nite's show made another mark in AJL history. for the second consecutive year, Anugerah Juara Lagu has acknowledged an indie band. Meet Uncle Hussein's (one of my favourite Malay indie bands) song Lagu Untukmu was named Best Song at the 23rd edition of TV3's annual song competition last night. imagine that?! another indie band marks its name in Malaysian music history. last year, Estranged took home the award with the upbeat number Untuk Kamu.

personally, i think this is the mark of evolution in the Malaysian music industry. the industry has finally unleashed from the reign of stereotypical Malay love ballads and cheesy pop songs to a more widely acceptable scope of musical tastes. who knows sometime in the near future EDM will be incorporated into one of these awards shows or even better; we get our very own EDM related awards show.

hope all youse had another great weekend. parties, substance and people. lol. i, on the other hand, spent most of my weekend cleaning up my apartment and as you can see, revamping the blog. i managed to tweak a few things on the site like the header and links. apart from that i'm still working on a full revamp of the site, which includes getting a unique domain name and a fresh template. i'll update all youse periodically on the progress.

we've also managed to squirt out a few ideas on how the site is gonna serve all you enthusiasts out there. we're planning to make obsessionsyndrome your one stop centre for Malaysian EDM related info. this includes posting interviews, photos, news, events and write-ups related to the Malaysian EDM scene. we also need some input from all our readers out there on how obsessionsyndrome can serve you better, so do drop us some comments and suggestions.

A large-scale study released this week showed that the herb gingko biloba has no effect in preventing dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. But alternative medicine aficionados may find hope in a new research touting the bennies of another "herb" in preserving memory.

Scientists from Ohio State University report that marijuana, contrary to the conventional wisdom, may help ward off Alzheimer's and keep recall sharp. Their findings, released today at the Society for Neuroscience meeting in Washington D.C.: chemical components of marijuana reduce inflammation and stimulate the production of new brain cells, thereby enhancing memory.

The team suggested that a drug could be formulated that would resemble tetrahydroannibol, or THC, the psychoactive ingredient in pot sans making the user high. But the research may ultimately drive those who fear impending dementia to roll their own solution to the problem.

Study co-author Gary Wenk, a professor of psychology, had already devised a preliminary version of a THC-like synthetic drug that improves memory in lab animals. His team at the meeting said that it works by activating at least three receptors in the brain targeted by THC—proteins on the surface of nerve cells that then trigger cellular processes resulting in reduced inflammation and production of new brain cells that can boost recall. Understanding how the compounds work may pave the way for a pharmaceutical company to prepare its own med for human clinical trials.

The researchers ducked the obvious question of whether it might be simpler, faster and cheaper to simply light up a joint. “Could people smoke marijuana to prevent Alzheimer’s disease if the disease is in their family?" Wenk said in a statement. "We’re not saying that, but it might actually work.”

Hello Rockaravers + Obsessors!

I bet everyone had a great weekend. I had a nice silent weekend with my family, minus the fever and focus on my study, the rest was all good. But, I keep on wondering how lucky we are to live in a peace country. No war, no blood everywhere, no tears and no grief.

I was hooked on the television most of the time over the weekend just to follow up on what is happening in Gaza. Seriously people, we should spread more Love, rather than Hate!! We should give more Love than to start a War!! I cried over one of the news when I saw a little boy's face was bleeding. Poor little kid! How can the world be so mean? How can Israel be so heartless? Another war, and we should end it, right away. Who am I anyway? I ain't no US President, nor that I am anyone important to the government. But there is one thing that I knew for sure. I am human, and it hurts to see people of my kind been slaughtered and to be killed in a war. For what? For nothing!

I am calling all of you rockaravers and obsessors, let's keep the PEACE, let's spread more LOVE, let's bring the UNITY, let's give more RESPECT for The Palestine. LET'S FREE GAZA!!

Greetings Rockaravers + Obsessors !!

Finally the time has about to come. The waiting is about to end. He is finally back to rock Kuala Lumpur! Armin Van Buuren, the World's #1 DJ will be in the mood to celebrate his KL fans with his exclusive and special 4 hour set.
